Simplicity (or minimalism) is one of the largest movements of the last decade, across industries. It is especially big in the areas of design, music and architecture.

Complexity was a bigger trend during the 80’s and 90’s, especially in art. Electronic and rock music from the 80’s and 90’s had that ‘over the top’ feel to it, where artists were throwing everything and the kitchen sink at their mixes.

The Difference Between Living Life And Not

image credit: fort photo (via flickr)

Not everyone has passion. Not everyone is moved emotionally by what they do. And, that’s extremely unfortunate. But fortunately, you are not like everyone else.

The winning organizations in every industry are filled with passionate, vocal, active people (also, we have more fun doing what we do). To us, it isn’t even really ‘work’ in the sense that it flows naturally and feels more like creative freedom.

Intro

I have strong thoughts and passion on this subject, and decided to put down just some in a feature connecting the music and news industries with a little history, the future and why everyone needs to come together and not fight change.

As both an artist and someone who works closely with the media industry, I believe I have a unique perspective on how similar the challenges are facing both of these industries and how it is unfortunate that the big players are using their positions of power to destroy a beautiful evolution of technology and communication.

This evolution ultimately will impact society in an incredibly positive way, bringing down the gatekeepers and creating a completely open and free cultural and information economy.

That is, if we (the independents) can win, and the laws are not bent to the fortune of the few when the power of the many is what will most benefit humanity.

Without this flow of ideas, I wouldn’t be able to achieve the results I want in any of these areas. No doubt, you’re already aware that being pressed to come up with big ideas on […]
