Common Sense Fail

I’ve been traveling this week, and as usual paying attention to details surrounding me to share fun bits with you here. Well here’s a quick one involving peanut packaging on an airplane:

There has to be a legal reason why they have to print the fact that yes, these peanuts were produced in a factory that, well, processes peanuts. But it’s just silly, whether a requirement by law or otherwise.

If you stop and think about it this is about as absurd as what a lot of companies do with their communications. And most aren’t even under the same legal obligations: they create their own, self-imposed roadblocks to sanity.

No matter what your product is, make sure the details and extra information given along with it adds value and provides useful context. Simply adding additional detail without sense makes your customers think less of you.
