Len,
You'll get people asking you about Risk-related issues a lot when trying to forward this agenda within your organization (e.g. Guidelines for SM usage).
The key is to put the policies in place before engagement so that you can manage those risks. Once you have a framework in place it's pretty difficult to run afoul.
Does that make sense?
Cheers,
Dave

Welcome to David and Goliath 2.0. Let's get ready to rumble!
In all seriousness, I completely agree. It wasn't until someone (ahem) pushed me out of my comfort zone and into the primordial goo that is blogging that I began to notice the creativity that comes with freedom.
We're taught that PR/marketing is just the grown up version of a conversation with your audience, but it's not. It's a shiny, clean and sterile. It's not relatable.
Until we, as professionals, can join the true conversation on social media outlets there is no way we can learn to respect and appreciate the way it has changed communication and our jobs.
Great post Adam. Kudos.

Adam,
This is me playing devil's advocate.... (I say that because what you say above is very true and I have a great deal of respect for your blog)
Individuals also don't have a lot of money. Thus, individuals have an exponentially lower risk factor for being sued or coming under other types of monetary pressure.
How does an organization overcome this?
