Interesting post and agree with the main line of thought. Would be valuable if we could start listing examples of failed DRM efforts with a short story on their outcome.

This topic is near and dear given my history of 19 years in Nashville. The labels have attempted to prop up the old models for years and for the most part still don't have a clue how to embrace and measure their artists audience. The indie artist are doing better by sharing with an audience that adopts a real role in their success. I comment because of one specific issue I have to take with the post....You mention that we didn't pass legislation that kept horse and buggies in business and we won't do the same now. Unfortunately, I see evidence that our government will indeed pass legislation to keep dying industries, methods, leadership, and policies in place. As providers of content, online community, connection, and ultimately, a change in the way business is conducted, I truly believe our government is likely to target anyone who jeopardizes someone or some company that has paid a sufficient bribe for political influence. We should be afraid, wary, skeptical, and most of all continually bold.
