This is a great analogy and it's definitely true. Both chess and marketing don't take very long to get a grasp of the fundamentals, but truly becoming a master at either one is an ongoing process that never really ends. In both, you always have to be learning new things in order to stay competitive and ahead of your opponents.

Nice strategy and I can see how the two relate. I try all the time to look ahead with strategy and goals with the site. We already have plans for the second and third release of the website and a few new techniques to try and build upon on the strategy we are working on now. Takes a long time and is very slow, but worth it if you make it.

I don't know where to start on this, your post is spot on! Like chess, Internet Marketing is not a game of chance where you can count on being lucky. You need to plan and be consistent. And practice, practice like crazy. Feel the net, embrace it. Sounds a bit cheesy, I know, but that's exactly what you should do.
Basically, I could sum up my post with the words: I agree.
