It’s Not About Technology, It’s About Ideas

After more than 12 years of socializing on the web I have come to a simple conclusion: it’s not about technology or being able to manipulate tools “better” than anyone else, rather – it’s about ideas. The technical aspects are totally democratized, and becoming simpler to implement every day. Internet marketing isn’t directly about technology, rather it’s about ideas that set it on fire.

It’s about ideas that spread, ideas that are sticky, ideas that connect us in meaningful ways – with each other, with businesses, with causes. Whether that idea is simple or complex technically is not relevant, and in fact some of the most successful examples are ridiculously simple. With that said – even to be able to come up with simple ideas you have to be fluent in how society connects and communicates and have a comprehension of all the tools available today and tomorrow.

The Future Buzz Is Now iPhone/Android/Kindle Friendly

Of the last 100,000 visitors to The Future Buzz, 2,145 – or around 2.14% were using iPhones, iPod touches or Android devices. So in an effort to make things easier for readers on the go, today I have done two things:

1) Installed the WP Touch plugin

The guys at Brave New Code made a slick little plugin which auto-detects if users are browsing via an iPhone, iPod Touch or Android powered device and serves a beautiful mobile version. It’s simple to install and makes any Wordpress powered blog look clean on leading mobile platforms. Fire up The Future Buzz in your iPhone to have a look, you’ll get something like this (I’ll work on customizing it further in the future, lots of neat options in the plugin):

No Niche Is Ever Too Crowded For Fresh Thinking

It’s daunting to step back and look at the sheer number of content-based sites that cover the spectrum of interests on the planet. For some, I know this can make it feel like it is too late to join – that others are so far ahead there is no way they’ll catch up. It may appear this way on the surface, but looks can be deceiving. The truth is, there is not a single niche that’s too crowded for fresh thinking.

19 Reasons You Should Blog And Not Just Tweet

blog

Unscientific observation: most bloggers use Twitter, but many Twitter users do not blog.

Twitter is popular because it is easy. It is easy to setup, easy to copy-paste links into, and easy to write 140 character bits. But, having your own blog remains the strongest platform if you’re serious about sharing ideas and having a continued dialog with the world. Blogging is the antithesis of easy, however it is far more rewarding.

Find A Friend, Start A Project

That’s your new mission. My friend Eric Friedman and I recently started work on a new side project (what he likes to call a sandbox project). I’ve been toying with the idea for a unique kind of content-based site for quite awhile – yet I kept stopping short of actually executing on it due to time constraints. It’s funny, the premise had been staring me in the face for about four months – only now, as I come to a different crossroads in life (which I’ll share more on when I can) has the idea been boiled to the surface. Eric and I flushed out the idea together and we’re taking a 50/50 stake in the entire process.
