An insightful piece of writing. An example of its message. I agree completely. However great writing and content undiscovered doesn't do much. You may not be able to sustain the initial period of obscurity. So Twitter and other social media are great places to show your stuff in bite-sized amounts. People who are intrigued can then reader the deep thoughts.

I think a lot of it has to do with credibility and reputation. If you're not credible and full of shit, your communications are definitely going to mean less to people, no matter how significant you try to make them.

But if you're quite credible overall and have a decent reputation, your messages are going to be taken more seriously, even the times when you fail to make them significant.

I wouldn't use Twitter for the so called micro blogging. Nobody actually cares about what you're doing or writing. Unless you're Kevin Rose and his equivalent.

For the first time ever, I took a risk and added a little of myself to my professional blog. It was so much more fun to write. I am guessing you know the difference between music which is played in a technically correct manner and music which emanates from the soul. Although both use the same notes, one mesmerizes and one bores. Being authentic is definitely the way to go - no matter what I am doing. Thanks for your article Adam - it has given me a little more courage.

@Gretchen Anthony - glad that helped.

@Nate @ Debt-free Scholar - great analogy.

@Christopher Ross - join up if you haven't, good to at least get an understanding of it.

@Jesse Hines - thanks, that is actually what I try and do here every time I post.

@Michele - yes, you're right - length is irrelevant, substance is what matters.
