I think the fears come on it own, when we don't know the future plan. The fears can be found in experience people, who try to secure their job. I believe we should get updated a little everyday. This will help to learn more faster and vanish the fear.

I have always worked in retail, usually in some sort of customer-focused merchandising/marketing/visual field. Store merchandise design, catalog design, building customer friendly stores, you name it. Currently I work in retail web. I consider what I do to be a natural outgrowth of everything I have already did. I LOVE what I do.
I am primarily a designer, not a marketer. But I am the person marketers go to to bring the product to the customer. I must understand marketing, and I must always remember the customer. The marketing folks I work with are young, bright and enthusiastic, and I have learned tons from them.
As I am new to the world of web design, I am constantly learning. It can be daunting. But you know what? The power of websites, strong visuals and copy, emails, SEO and social networking to attract customers to buy product they like, want or need has me convinced.
I know folks -old time retailers- who just don't (or won't!) understand the web is the future and the future is now. What great opportunities to grow their business they are missing by not educating themselves or not listening to their web-savvy support staff.
