Well, I happen to be a web developer, and my boyfriend is a marketer, so I tend to rely on him for his skills, and he on mine. While we're both trying to learn the craft of the other, I just can't get from product to sale, and he can't seem to grasp HTML (Not even going to try to teach him PHP for a while).
I agree on most of your points. However, I also feel that PHP/MySQL is a skill for the techies. After seeing his frustrations trying to pick it up while lacking the passion, I know it's not meant for everybody. What's more than that, uninspired people tend to produce poor-quality material.
HTML, however, is a skill everybody needs to know these days, or at least have a good WYSIWYG editor. I'm amazed how many still don't even know of its existence.

I'm with Kerry Gaffney and Adam Singer on this - there are traditional skills that are - and will be for the next few years - far more important that knowledge of PHP, Drupal,CSS, MySQL and a few others - like spotting the stories, being able to tell clients what isn't a story, taking bad ideas and making them good, having the confidence to say to clients 'that sucks' and being able to work with the traditional media as well as the online - and that's just off the top of my head.
Still a good list though and a fair point of view.

Nice post. But listen clear and compelling copy demands skills that most web people don't have.
Thanks for the list though, a very nice wake up call.
Take good care. The Baldchemist

Personally I think that there are a few skills missing in your top ten, such as ability to build relationships, know how to create a good story and the crucial ability to be able to test anything that the client suggests or you have created by asking the four most important questions of 'Yeah?', 'And?', 'So?', 'What?'. Having digi skills is great and more power to your elbow if you have them but if you can't actually do the PR role then they matter diddly.
