There are different kinds of blogs. While those that focus on breaking news may always get the lions share of attention, I strongly believe blogs like this one that provide quality content, reference material, and basic information for anyone new to a subject are far more valuable.
I get the same type of questions, especially when I write about something very basic. Those who aren't beginners seem to have forgotten that they did not always know what they know today.
Most posts are written by experts for experts; there are far fewer who can explain what they know in a way that anyone with no background can understand. THAT is a far greater gift.

More power to ya. You have built up a solid resource of useful information with your blog and your "detailed, in-depth posts" are a big part of that usefulness. That and your knack for making lists ;)
Thanks for the mention!

Google and good SEO practices favour longer posts, too. So it definitely helps your blog.
But I concede that I skimmed your post; I have to be in a certain frame of mind to read detailed posts. The good news is that the obvious level of intelligence may make me return here.

Great article! Hemingway didn't travel across the world to get short quick sound bites. He wanted to have experiences that would move him to write novels. So to detailed blogs are needed to keep our muscle called the brain thinking, pondering and experiencing life through others. If everyone wrote short, concise posts, what would there be to talk about?

While I agree with most of your points, I find one to stand out in particular.
"We live in an insanely busy culture of short attention spans and over-summarized thought."
This is a cold, hard fact, and unfortunately, I often catch myself skimming through great content. The reason behind this (I think) is that the internet has opened so many doors that the wealth of information available to us is just so overwhelming. But we cannot choose just any one thing; some people want a taste of everything and don't limit themselves (i.e. subscribe to way too many feeds), thus are driven over by the amount of noise and traffic, and end up skimming through everything in order to get through all articles.
Props to you for sticking with the longer blog posts. Happy Holidays!
