What a great post and an amazingly good video. Creativity strangled by law, how deeply sad.
But indeed, the power is with the people. With each individual that has access to all those wonders of the communication media.
The consumer that has to become a creator again, just wow!

Good stuff here. The Lessig video is cool. Interesting way to start off, with Sousa. However, I don't think amateur culture is limited to kids that way Lessig portrays it. Plenty of "grownups" use these tools too.
The news and music industries have suffered from the same malady over the last two decades - consolidation of the media into the hands of a few mega-corporations.
The Internet helps tilt the balance in favor of independent voices, which is why the big corporations go after them the way they do. What's happened to music is especially tragic. Commercial radio has been almost completely destroyed, reduced to the level of elevator music for the Pepsi Generation(s).
As for newspapers, well, the writing has been on the wall since the mid-90s. But when you have an infrastructure-intensive model like printing-press distribution, it's hard to change. I personally like newspapers, I've got ink in my blood as they say, but the quality is really going down as papers cut staff to the bone. Even NYT isn't immune anymore. And what AP did is just ridiculous.
I like your music, btw.
