Remember these old Apples? Of course you do. In fact, if you’re anything like me, looking at this image makes you nostalgic for the past.

I learned to type on an Apple II years ago as well as used it to play educational and just-for-fun games. It doesn’t seem like so long ago and actually it wasn’t. It’s incredible how far we’ve come in such a short amount of time.

These images have a strong connection with some of you, and probably induce a bit of nostalgia. Images are incredibly powerful at this, and while your brand itself may or may not be old enough to induce nostalgia on its own, if you can align yourself with something that makes people ponder the past, you can forget a strong connection.

Nostalgia is powerful because it causes people to directly interact with deep rooted emotions and feelings within their psyche. Tapping into things people may not have thought about or pondered for years is an incredibly powerful strategy.

Bring forth these feelings with your consumers and fans (aligned with your product) and you can create some strong associations and feelings for your brand.

And yes, clearly I grew up in the 80’s/90’s. These images are nostalgic to me. The ones that are to you may be different, but the nostalgia you are trying to evoke with your campaign should be targeted to the consumer base you’re trying to tap.

There are an incredible amount of cultural memes out there that produce nostalgia to different sets of people. It will definitely help to talk to some people who are in the demographic you’re targeting to see if what you want to do will actually resonate.

Wow! It’s fascinating to me how, psychologically, those images are able to arouse my interest because of exactly the reasons you state – I had a connection with them in my past and hadn’t seen or thought about them in a long time.
Thank you very much. Good tip. Nicely played.

really nice…I just posted some toys I’m selling and I remembered this blog so… wasn’t it around the same time that ThunderCats was showing when SilverHawks was also on TV? :-)
