Ever Google Your Own Name?
A guy named Jim Killeen went ahead and turned the idea of Google-ing your own name (something everyone has done at least once) into a documentary entitled “Google Me” staring 7 Jim Killeens. Here’s the trailor:

Funny enough, myself and 16 other Adam Singer’s created a group in 2006 to connect us all on Facebook (see it here). Not really a new idea to connect with people of the same name as yourself through the web, however its neat to see it as a documentary.
You can watch the full version here, free. Some parts of it drag on a little bit, but overall it is entertaining and well produced.

there are 2 other erik soderquist’s you get when you Google my name, one is a painter who surfs for Hurley and one is some IT guru or something crazy like that. My name is Usually right up at the top though. Pretty crazy. I got a really unique name though!

I agree with the main point in this movie. I believe that the next step after Facebook, My Space and all the Social Networking websites everyone will have their own personal website. In the future, personal websites will have an increasingly important role in our lives. Individuals and employers will depend on them to make decisions. People who have invested time and effort in creating interesting websites will have a distinct advantage over people who don’t have personal websites.
A personal website can be useful both in your professional life and personal life. Having a personal webpage is about making available your information and opinions that other people find interesting, and in the process indirectly documenting your interests, opinions, skills, and personality. Friends or employers with similar interests can then find you based on the content of your site.
A personal professional website helps you professionally by establishing your expertise and business image. A good professional webpage creates demand for a person’s services and knowledge. Posting your resume on your personal website makes sense. You never know when someone is searching for your skills; if your resume is not online you may miss out on job opportunities.
